"During the negotiations in Baku, the necessity of intensification of the commission`s activity on demarcation at the governmental level was highlighted", Margvelashvili said. "And this cannot create problems in the context of strategic partnership."
He pointed out that within this commission the issue related to David Gareji Monastery Complex located on the two countries` border will also be resolved.
"During the visit to Azerbaijan this issue was discussed in the context of state border demarcation process," Margvelashvili said.
The Georgian president was on a visit to Azerbaijan on February 12-13. Margvelashvili visited Baku and Gabala.
Some 180 kilometers section of the Azerbaijan - Georgia state border has not yet fully coordinated, Head of the State Committee for Land and Cartography Garib Mammadov told journalists recently.
The length of the Azerbaijan - Georgia state border is 480 kilometers and about 300 kilometers have already been agreed at the level of state commissions.
Kazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Samukh, Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan regions of Azerbaijan borders Georgia.
Some segments of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border remain controversial. For example, there is no agreement in the place near the David Garedji monastery complex. The Georgian side claims that the historic monument is located on the territory of Georgia and Azerbaijan also challenges this territory. The state border between Azerbaijan and Georgia actually divides monastery into two parts.
