15 arrested over case of Azerbaijani national security ministry
15 persons have been put in pretrial detention in connection with the case of the Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security.

Several others have been restricted from leaving the country.

Those sentenced to pretrial detention are being held in the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service and the Baku Investigation Isolator. Among the arrested are officials of the Ministry of Communication and High Technologies too.

Note that, Chief of the ministry’s Monitoring Center Teymur Guliyev, deputy chief of the Counter-Terrorism Centre Ilgar Aliyev, deputy chief of the Main Department of Combating Transnational Organized Crime Fuzuli Aliyev, and employees of the Monitoring Center Farhad Atayev, Anar Shiraliyev, Eshgin Aliyev and Elshad Azizov were sentenced to three months’ pretrial detention under charges on articles #308.2, 309.1 and 302.2 of the Criminal Code.

Later on, Head of Baku Telephone Communications Production Association (BTCPA) Beytulla Huseynov was brought to investigation and arrested after the court verdict. He is said to be a close relative of former Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov.

The MNS is undergoing staff reforms due to the latest incidents. The ministry’s several high-ranking officials have been dismissed or given a new position.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Note that, on October 17 Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov was sacked under the order of President Ilham Aliyev.

After that, a criminal case was opened against MNS officials under the Criminal Code’s articles 308.2, 309.1 and 302.2.
