He expressed concern over activities threatening peace in the CIS area. “In this regard, I cannot overlook the conflicts that brought about the fall of the Soviet Union, separatism, acts of ethnic cleansing, and clashes between nations in the post-soviet area,” he noted.
Religious figures regard the human life as the highest value, Pashazadeh said.
“Therefore, we thank the Russian Orthodox Church representatives and Patriarch Kirill for their mediation activities and efforts to help the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict be settled justly and peacefully, and for not allowing it to turn into a religious conflict,” he added.
Pashazadeh put special emphasis on the bill prohibiting the presentation of quotes from the Koran and Gospel as extremist materials, presented by the Russian president to the State Duma. He said Azerbaijan has rare experience of interreligious cooperation.
“Tolerance and multiculturalism in independent Azerbaijan is the basis of the strategy whose foundation was laid by Heydar Aliyev. This policy is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev” the CMO chairman said.
