Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by Angelo Farrugia, the speaker of the Maltese Parliament.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that Angelo Farrugia’s visit to Azerbaijan will be a success.
Speaker Farrugia said Malta and Azerbaijan enjoy a very good level of relations, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral ties.
He recalled with satisfaction his previous visits to Azerbaijan as well as his meeting with the Azerbaijani president during his visit to Azerbaijan within a delegation from the OSCE and the Council of Europe four years ago.
President Ilham Aliyev noted the cooperation between the two countries at various levels, underling extensive discussions on various issues were held during the Maltese prime minister’s visits to Azerbaijan.
Touching upon the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev reminded that an invitation had been sent to the OSCE ODIHR in order for it to monitor the elections. However, this organization did not discuss the issue at the OSCE PA Standing Committee and decided not to send observers to the elections, without notifying the OSCE secretary general and in flagrant violation of its mandate
