“In case of border closure between Germany and Austria, the same situation will emerge, a situation which is not sought by any EU states”.
She added that Germany must find a solution that would correspond to European solidarity principles. Merkel said an escalation is developing in the western Balkans due to the refuge flow, noting that the Balkan conference might be held over the problem.
"Because I do not want [us to go] there again… military conflicts,” she stressed.
