“The airport in Zagatala will receive an international status after reconstruction and runway extension. I initiated the construction of Zagatala airport and it was built. Now we set forth the task to extend the runway for airport’s receiving all aircrafts. It will lead to international flights and increase in the influx of tourists.”

President Aliyev made the remarks on Wednesday at the opening of the Heydar Aliyev Center in Zagatala district.

The head of state said that Zagatala has very beautiful nature, many sights, historical and ancient architectural monuments. “I would like the citizens of Azerbaijan to see it, firstly to develop domestic tourism. I also want foreign tourists coming and seeing beautiful places of Azerbaijan,” he said.

“Security is ensured in Azerbaijan at a high level. Stability and unity between the people and the government are further strengthening. The recent parliamentary elections confirmed it once again. First of all, I should note that there was a high turnout in the parliamentary elections. At the same time, all democratic norms were provided. Fair and transparent elections once again showed Azerbaijan’s commitment to democratic development. More than five hundred foreign and tens of thousands of local observers confirmed my words. All international observers noted that the elections were held at the highest level. They also noted that these elections reflected the will of the Azerbaijani people,” said the head of state.

Azerbaijan does not need anyone’s help - president

Today, Europe is experiencing a moral crisis. Europe cannot remain committed to its values, and migrants, including Muslim refugees are being tortured, their dignity is being humiliated and very intolerable and unacceptable steps are being taken against them, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.


President Aliyev made the remarks on Nov.4 at the opening of the Heydar Aliyev Center in Zagatala.

“I have repeatedly stated that these people are in no way to blame. As a result of foreign intervention, their country has been destroyed, they lost tens and hundreds of thousands of loved ones, millions of people have become refugees. Now they are seeking asylum in Europe. However, barriers and barbed wires are laid before them, and they are attacked by dogs and put into cages. The foods are thrown on them like an unworthy treatment of a human being. In the 21st century, these kinds of intolerable actions do not honor anyone. This is a testing period. Europe needs to overcome this test and remain true to its values. Otherwise, if this situation continues, no demands can be put before any other county. First of all, one should normalize domestic processes, remain committed to its values and then demand something from others,” he said.

Azerbaijan is very concerned over these processes, the head of state said.

“I am sure that every normal person, seeing these poor people in such a state is experiencing a very heavy feeling. On the other hand, it is a religious confrontation - I would call it so - it is not a migrant crisis. This is the result of anti-Muslim propaganda in recent years, which can lead to more problems and a clash of civilizations in the world, added the president.

The head of state stressed that Azerbaijan is promoting the values of multiculturalism.

“We are holding a variety of forums, conferences, and international events to prove that it is possible to live together. Everyone can see it in the example of Azerbaijan. However, today we see that religious confrontation can lead to even greater problems. We should also know it. Some it is said that we need to integrate into Europe. Several times, I have said that we don’t need to integrate. We have established strong state and equal relations with countries in line with our own national values. In particular, there is no need for integration in the current period of discrimination and islamophobia. How can we integrate? Can they receive us? No. This is the reality, but bitter. That`s why we will continue to live only at the expense of internal resources,” President Aliyev said.

“No one has ever helped us. We`ve achieved everything at our own expense. We don`t expect any help from anyone, there is no need for it. Simply, we want no one to interfere in our works, no attempt to speak the language of force with us. These efforts are in vain. I think that the Azerbaijani people are able to protect their national dignity and have proved it. Our strength lies in unity between the people and the government. Therefore, despite the ongoing processes in the world, we witness development in Azerbaijan. New buildings, industrial facilities are being built, people are living in a comfortable environment, and elections are held in good conditions. This is the model of the successful development of Azerbaijan. I am sure that we will go through this successful path in the future,” the president completed.
