Freedom to Shusha video presented in Baku - VIDEO
An event dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of the occupation of Shusha by Armenian armed forces was held at the International Press Center in Baku on May 5.

It was organized by the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani town of Shusha was occupied by Armenian armed forces on May 8, 1992.

While speaking at the event, chairman of the council, MP Azay Guliyev regretted that the Azerbaijani people still have to mark the anniversary of the occupation of Shusha.

He also accused the OSCE Minsk Group of the lack of progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

A video presentation prepared as part of the "Freedom to Shusha" campaign was viewed.

The calls for the liberation of the ancient Azerbaijani town were voiced at 22 world languages.

In his speech at the event, Guliyev said that the purpose of this campaign is to provide the world public with full and objective information about the occupation of Shusha by Armenian armed forces.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
