Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stands for the preserving of the purity of the Azerbaijani language and against the foreign borrowing.
“For many centuries, Azerbaijani people preserved their nation in terms of culture, arts, music, carpet-weaving, arts and other traditions. Our activities in this field is based on Azerbaijani language”. President Ilham Aliyev said at the general meeting held for the 70th anniversary of the ANAS (Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences).
The president stated, the Azerbaijani language protected us as a nation and a folk: ” We were able to preserve our national values and national language although we were a part of other countries and empires for centuries. But we could ensure the purity of the Azerbaijani language. The foreign intervention to our language and the support for this intervention worry me. The Azerbaijani language is a rich language. In this regard, we do not need any other foreign words in our language.
Certainly, our people, particularly the offspring generation should know foreign languages. First of all, they must know their native language.
The president stated, we should speak in azerbaijani without adding any foreign language elements use foreign words in our national language: “ There is no need. However, some public figures and cabinet members use foreign words in their speech at TV programs and at Milli Majlis (National Assembly). Although I am not a specialist in this field, I suppose we do not need to contrive new words. If we protect our rich vocabulary and deliver it to future generations, it will be our greatest achievement.
