Lies about Azerbaijan at World Forum for Democracy to be exposed
The World Forum for Democracy started its work in Strasbourg. The representatives of Azerbaijani media attend of the forum as well.
Some unfounded and untrue thoughts about media in Azerbaijan were expressed during the "Civic engagement for freedom of media" panel.

There was an attempt to mislead the audience on the forum, the chairman of the Central Asian & Southern Caucasian Freedom of Expression Network (CASCFEN) Azer Hasret told Trend.

The NGO head said that speaking on the panel he informed the participants of the forum about untruthfulness of expressed thoughts. "The biggest lie during the panel was that funds allocated to military needs in countries like Azerbaijan are spent on the maintenance of the press supporting the government. I stated that this has never happened in Azerbaijan and everything said has no reason", he said.

Azer Hasret also mentioned that it was told about the prohibitions and obstacles created for free activity of journalists in Azerbaijan. He said that he refuted these thoughts and informed participants about free activities of dozens of journalists and media agencies in Azerbaijan.

Hasret said that some strange suggestions were sounded during the panel. "Covert funding of such countries as Azerbaijan by Western donor countries was suggested. This surprised us much", he added.

He also said that no one could bring arguments in response to his thoughts during the panel. "Their attempt to deceive the audience failed, because people who were attending there did not even know the location of Azerbaijan on the map. So we exposed their lie about Azerbaijan", Hasret said.

The forum will continue its work on November 20.
