Brussels Schools Will Be Shut Monday Over High Terror Threat
"I confirm that the schools will be shut tomorrow in Brussels," the minister said after a security council meeting.
The country`s authorities continue fearing a terrorist attack similar to the one in Paris, according to Michel.
"OCAM [coordination center for threat analysis] made a decision to keep the level of terror threat at `4` for the Brussels region, which means a serious and an inevitable threat. The level remains at the `3` mark for the rest of the territory," the prime minister said.
On Saturday, the authorities raised the terror alert level in Brussels to level 4, the highest possible, in the wake of attacks in Paris earlier this month.
The Brussels underground was shut down on Saturday and Sunday, and will remain closed on Monday.
At least 130 people were killed and over 350 injured in suicide bombings and shootings at a football stadium, a concert hall and restaurants in Paris on November 13.
Following the attacks, the Belgian police carried out a series of anti-terrorist operations detaining a number of people in Brussels, after it was revealed one of the attackers had lived there. At least 16 suspects have been arrested, according to media reports.
