Azerbaijan continues fights against Islamophobia - President Aliyev
Association of terrorism with Islam by some Western circles is not true, Islam is a religion of peace, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the 12th session of the ISESCO General Conference in Baku Nov.26.

The president said that Azerbaijan continues its fight against Islamophobia. “Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the promotion of Islamic culture abroad and is doing everything necessary to strengthen interreligious and intercultural relations,” he said.

Azerbaijan takes an active part on a global scale to strengthen Islamic solidarity and promote Islamic values, said President Aliyev.

“We are proud that Shamakhi mosque, one of the oldest mosques of the world, is located in Azerbaijan,” he added.

President Aliyev said ISESCO’s priority areas are developing in Azerbaijan. “Azerbaijan is implementing major projects in the areas of science, education, and culture.”

The head of state recalled that Baku this year hosted the first-ever European Games.

“In 2017, Baku will host the Islamic Solidarity Games. This is not only a sports event but also an indicative of cooperation among civilizations,” the president said.

He also stressed that Othman Altwaijri plays a key role in strengthening ISESCO’s activity.
