Azerbaijan is concerned over tension between Turkey and Russia - President
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has today received the delegation led by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Aliyev congratulated Cavusoglu on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and wished him success in his endeavors.

“G20 summit successfully held in Antalya is a very great achievement of Turkey. Turkey has once again demonstrated that it is a great country and has great power. I am glad that fraternal country invited Azerbaijan to the meeting. It demonstrates the high level of Turkey- Azerbaijan relations, shows to our peoples and to the world that Turkey and Azerbaijan are the closest countries to each other,” said president.

The head of state said that G20 summit showed that Turkey`s position is very important in a number of issues. The president underlined successful cooperation of the two countries in all fields.

In his turn, M. Cavusoglu said he is proud to pay his first visit after his appointment as foreign minister.

He also said they are proud of President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the G-20 Summit, noting that by joining such a meeting Azerbaijan has further strengthened Turkey’s position. Cavusoglu said he believes Turkey-Azerbaijan relations will continue to develop in all areas and these relations will be raised up to higher levels under the two fraternal countries’ leadership.

During the talk, the head of state mentioned the recent escalation in relations between Turkey and Russia, noting that Azerbaijan has had close relations throughout history with both countries and is therefore concerned by this escalation. President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan is ready to make efforts to ease and eliminate the escalation in Turkey-Russia relations.

The sides then exchanged ideas on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as well as the TANAP, TAP, Baku-Tbilisi, Kars and other projects jointly implemented by Azerbaijan and Turkey.
