External forces had a role in Nardaran incident - Siyavush Novruzov
External forces have had a role in the Nardaran incident, Siyavush Novruzov, deputy executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party and chairman of the parliamentary committee on public associations and religious organizations, made the remarks in a statement to APA on Friday.
Information released by the prosecutor general’s office and the interior ministry suggests that a group of people have tried to form special groups in both Baku and districts in order to change state structure in Azerbaijan, create a religious state, and commit terrorist acts against state officials.

“This incident was aimed at fulfilling orders of some states. After law-enforcement agencies learned of the issue, those people were invited to questioning many times but they did not come. During the operation, law enforcement agencies met with their armed resistance and two police officers were martyred,” he said.

According to him, all necessary measures should be taken beforehand so that such illegal acts could not be repeated.

“Azerbaijan has been through a lot to establish the current public-political stability. After his coming to power for the second time, Heydar Aliyev has for a few years done a lot to neutralize illegal armed groups, and to establish and strengthen public-political stability in Azerbaijan. The same policy is being followed today by President Ilham Aliyev. Therefore, whoever seeks to destabilize Azerbaijan or take a step against the Azerbaijani state, state structure and people, will be prevented decisively,” said Siyavush novruzov.

Novruzov noted that there is nothing religious about the Nardaran incident but there are deeds committed under the cover of religion.

“We have all seen state attention and care to religion in Azerbaijan. No single mosque is left without repairs. [Mosques] have been thoroughly repaired and put into use. Shamakhy Mosque, the most ancient in the Caucasus, as well as the Imamzadeh complex in Ganja are examples.

We have built one of the largest mosques in the Caucasus and the world, Heydar Aliyev Mosque. Anyone can perform religious rites freely. We cannot imitate any country; we have our own traditions and religious views. Islam in Azerbaijan is incomparable to anywhere else and the most authentic form of Islam is in Azerbaijan. Were any foreign intelligence agencies to cause any mischief in Azerbaijan, they will be dealt with,” said Siyavush Novruzov.
