29 people go missing in oil platform accident - SOCAR
“Suddenly, everywhere was plunged into darkness and flames when the windstorm damaged a gas line,” said the SOCAR’s vice-president. “Although it was a terrible moment, our employees didn’t run scared and acted in accordance with the instruction.”
Rescuers were unable to come close to the platform due to the fire and high wave, said Yusifzade. “At night, the rope securing a boat broke and the boat with oil workers on board fell into the sea,” he added.
According to him, 29 people have gone missing. “SOCAR has focused all the effort on the search for those missing. Currently, the main task to find those missing,” he said.
Yusifzade said that 26 people have been rescued and taken to the Central Hospital of Oil Workers of Azerbaijan. “Some of them are receiving medical aid while others were discharged from the hospital.”
According to him, the fire on the platform continues, and the work is underway to extinguish the fire.
