Some authorities used non-fire-resistant materials in overhaul of buildings
Global processes including political confrontations call for not only enhanced military strength but also high-level management of emergencies, so countries create such organizations, said Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Colonel General Kamaladdin Heydarov.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the expanded meeting dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The minister said large numbers of people have been rescued over this period. He also talked about the necessity to increase efforts in this area.

“The ministry’s concerned body should boost control. Informative work has to continue in order to prevent people from entering the sea in areas out of control,” he noted.

Heydarov said the ministry employees, risking their own lives, have rescued people during emergencies. “For example, during the fire in a high-rise in Baku’s Binagadi district, the fire fighters rescued numerous persons risking their own health and lives. Unfortunately, the fire claimed the lives of 16 people,” the minister added.

He said that ministry’s relevant bodies, from time to time, warned district and city executive powers. “It is a pity that some district and city executive powers disregarded the warnings and used non-fire-resistant materials in overhaul of buildings,” the minister stressed.
