The bill "Azerbaijan Democracy Act" submitted to Congress by the US Helsinki Commission, acting under the chairmanship of Chris Smith, is anti-Azerbaijani in nature and is unacceptable, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev said on Dec.17.

The initiator of the document Congressman Chris Smith is known for his a pro-Armenian position and acts under the influence of the Armenian lobby in the US, said Hajiyev.

Hajiyev said there is no doubt that this bill which is aimed against Azerbaijan was prepared by the Armenian lobby in the US on the eve of congressional elections.

Such biased steps can have a negative impact on the image of the US in the Azerbaijani society, he added.
