Mammadyarov said the mechanism of investigation of incidents is not a goal but one of the complex means that can contribute to a comprehensive solution to the conflict.
“Firstly, why do the incidents occur? This is why Armenian armed forces illegally exist in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. If the Armenian armed forces withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, then no incident will occur and there will be no need to investigate,” said the FM.
Following the meeting held by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in New York in September this year with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Azerbaijani side has reiterated that the mechanism to investigate incidents should be an integral part of the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, said the minister.
Mammadyarov went on to add that the incident investigation mechanism covers a number of questions, and its application in areas located along the borders between Azerbaijan’s occupied territories and Armenia.
The FM said Armenia is deliberately pushing into the background the withdrawal of its troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, which is the most important element of a comprehensive solution to the conflict as referred by the OSCE MG co-chairs and focusing on an investigation of incidents.
“Armenia, under the pretext of this mechanism, is obviously trying to consolidate the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and preserve the status quo that is considered unacceptable by the MG co-chairs,” he stressed.
