He made the remarks on Wednesday during the ceremony dedicated to sport results of 2015 at the National Olympic Committee.
According to the president, every athlete in the country receives state care. “Measures are being taken every year to solve the athletes’ social problems, and this process will continue.”
There are 41 Olympic Sports complexes in Azerbaijan, President Aliyev said, adding that the construction of 10 more complexes is underway. “Azerbaijan is building a strong sports infrastructure.”
“My meetings with athletes have become a tradition,” said the president. Azerbaijani athletes are getting good results in international competitions, he noted.
The head of state went on to add that Azerbaijani athletes have won 823 medals in international competitions held in 2015 and 321 of them are gold medals.
“It shows that the sports area is successfully developing in Azerbaijan and our youth are getting good results in world and European tournaments. The properly-planned sports policy in the country will allow us to reach milestones in future, too,” said the president.
