Joint Working Group on human rights holds meeting
The Joint Working Group on human rights issues holds its next meeting.

This group has been created neither for the Council of Europe, nor the European Union and other international organizations, the co-chair of the Joint Working Group, head of the Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE, Samad Seyidov said addressing the meeting.

The main goal of the group is to recommend relevant authorities in addressing human rights concerns, said Seyidov. “Therefore, Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland’s decision to call back his representatives from the group is not important for us.”

He called Jagland’s action strange, because he first recalled his representative and then decided to send a representative to Azerbaijan in connection with human rights situation.

The group will continue its activities, the co-chair said.

The group has been created as an internal mechanism in Azerbaijan and will further continue to function as an internal mechanism, Member of the Joint Working Group, MP Azay Guliyev said.

Hereinafter, the meeting was behind closed doors.
