Istanbul hosts meeting of TURKPA Elders
Istanbul is hosting the 10th meeting of the Council of Elders of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TURKPA).
Declaring the meeting open, TURKPA Secretary General Ramil Hasanov said that the Assembly in accordance with the traditions of Turkish-speaking people attaches great importance to the role of elders in societies.

“In preparation for the summit of Turkic Council member states, we are meeting our elders and listening to their recommendations. It is no coincidence that the Turkic Council has held numerous meetings of elders so far,” said Hasanov.

Mustafa Isen, MP from the Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), proposed to hold a scientific meeting with the participation of representatives from various universities and submit materials to be prepared following the meeting to the summit of leaders of TURKPA.

In his turn, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Council of Elders, MP Fattah Heydarov emphasized the importance of using Turkish as the main language in all international meetings.

“Along with English, French, German, Arabic, and Russian, Turkish too will be spoken at international meetings and be among the languages to be translated. We have to do all we can to achieve it,” said Heydarov.

He said the world is facing serious problems today, noting that there are political and economic crises as well as refugee problems.

“In consideration of our countries’ fates, we should not step back in saying what we have to say. The world is facing crises, wars and refugee problems. We need to work on these issues. Thank God, our Turkic world is secure of these crises. Each of us represents their own state. Foreseeing the younger generation’s future, we need to say our word with courage,” he stressed.
