Azerbaijan`s position on Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not change in 2016. Azerbaijan will continue its efforts to resolve the conflict without making fundamental changes.

Deputy Prime Minister, ruling New Azerbaijan Party’s deputy chairman and executive secretary Ali Ahmadov told in an exclusive interview to Dailykarabakh.

Ahmadov said that Azerbaijan`s position on Nagorno-Karabakh is clear. "The return of occupied lands, ensuring Azerbaijani citizens’ return to their homes is the only value for Azerbaijan and these values can not change. Despite the fact that minor tactical changes can be made in the negotiation process, our principle position remains unchanged".

Deputy prime minister said that the OSCE Minsk Group has failed to demonstrate productive work for justice, the return of the occupied lands. But Azerbaijan will not give up its principles until the last moment by using the negotiation process.

Ahmadov also commented on the tension on the line of contact in recent years. "Increased provocative attempts of Armenian soldiers on the front lines are connected with the strengthening of the Azerbaijan National Army. The enemy is resorting to provocations to test the position of Azerbaijan. And each time the enemy receives an adequate response from the Azerbaijani army".

Ahmadov added that the increased tension on the front is also connected with the geopolitical situation. "The processes taking place in the region as a whole has led to an escalation and other interested parties are trying to use these processes".

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
