Iran clarifies lease of Azerbaijani mosque in Yerevan
An agreement on leasing the Blue Mosque in Yerevan to Iran for 99 years was reached a few years ago. This agreement is being executed now.
Iranian Foreign Ministry`s spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari made this statement during a weekly briefing in Tehran Dec.28, APA reports.

He said that according to the signed document, necessary work is underway regarding the mosque.

The Armenian government on Dec.10 adopted a decision that the Blue Mosque and the adjacent areas are the property of Armenia. The mosque is expected to be listed as historical and cultural monuments of Armenia. But subsequently, a contract was signed with the Iranian embassy, and regarding the latter’s right to use this mosque for 99 years. The mosque will serve as an Iranian cultural center.
