President congratulates Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the Orthodox Christian community of Azerbaijan on Christmas, an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

"Dear fellow countrymen! I would like to heartily congratulate you and the entire Christian community of Azerbaijan, and extend my sincere wishes to all of you as you celebrate the sacred holiday of Christmas," the president’s congratulatory message said.

In Azerbaijan - which is famous today in the world as an example of exemplary tolerance, area of dialogue among civilizations and cultures – religions and beliefs historically existed in peace, mutual respect and trust, some peoples and ethnic communities as representatives of various cultures demonstrated love to the common motherland, indestructible unity and solidarity around the ideology of Azerbaijanism, said the message.

“Preservation of the ethnocultural diversity, support and promotion of multiculturalism in our society in the modern era is one of the main objectives of the national policy. Democratic conditions have been created for different peoples living in our country to preserve their national values, spiritual faith, and traditions, and develop their tongue and culture. I am pleased to note that our Christian citizens, who form an integral part of our society, have made their contributions to relations between faiths and peoples, taking an active part in all areas of socio-political life,” the message said.

“Known as the blessed birthday of Prophet Jesus and celebrated with huge enthusiasm in Azerbaijan every year, Christmas embodies renewal, peace and the triumph of mercy and compassion. May this sacred holiday bring happiness and abundance to your families. Happy Christmas!", said the president`s congratulatory message.
