Strong quake hits Indonesian islands
No tsunami threat reported after tremor hits Talaud islands north of Sulawesi
Indonesia`s Talaud Islands were struck by a strong earthquake early Tuesday, but there was no threat of a tsunami.

The local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported the 6.4-magnitude quake as hitting the islands north of Sulawesi at 00.38 a.m. (1638GMT Monday).

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no tsunami threat.

Indonesia lies within the Pacific’s "Ring of Fire", where tectonic plates collide and cause frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
