US Embassy advises americans to avoid demonstrations in 4 Italian cities
US citizens residing or travelling in Italy should avoid areas where mass demonstrations are scheduled to take place in Rome, Milan, Vicenza and Sigonella January 16-27, the US Embassy in Rome said in a security message on Friday.
Up to 5,000 people are expected to participate in demonstrations in Rome.

"The US Embassy in Rome recommends that all US citizens and their families avoid the areas of the demonstrations and exercise caution if walking or driving in the immediate area," the message stated.

The Piattaforma Sociale Euro Stop group is organizer of the scheduled demonstration Basta Guerra, or Stop War, that will coincide with the anniversary of the air campaign in the first Gulf War in 1991, according to the US Embassy.
