Azerbaijani defense ministry dismisses reports on reduction of military pay
The recent media reports on the reduction of military pay in the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are false and groundless, the Defense Ministry told AzVision.az on Jan.16.

“Such reports are regrettable and surprising,” the ministry said, noting that in 2016, defense spending has significantly increased compared to the last year.

“There is no reduction in military pay and the number of the overall composition of the Armed Forces has not changed. On the contrary, as a result of staff and structural reforms the salaries of servicemen has increased and the base of the social security of personnel and their families has been strengthened,” said the ministry.

According to the ministry, the work in this area will continue this year under the instructions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

The ministry went on to add that this year it also plans to commission new ten military towns and provide the personnel with service and permanent flats. “Three new military towns, which will be commissioned during the Novruz holiday, will become a good example for our future achievement.”

In addition, Open Doors Day to be held on the eve of the holiday will prove the aforesaid, said the ministry.

The ministry said in order to strengthen the combat readiness of the Azerbaijani Army, numerous bilateral and multilateral exercises with the involvement of various types of troops are scheduled to take place in 2016.

“One needs to take into account the interests of people and the state security while disseminating any information about the Armed Forces,” the ministry stressed.

The ministry said it will provide the public with correct and timely information about the activities and events to be carried out in the Armed Forces this year.
