Greek PM to visit Azerbaijan
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will visit Azerbaijan on Sept. 20 to take part in the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of signing the Contract of the Century, Greek Athens News Agency reported on Sept.19.

The Greek delegation will also include Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Yiannis Maniatis and the government spokesperson Sofia Voultepsi.

During the visit, Greek prime minister is expected to meet with Azerbaijan’s top officials, as well as the leaders of other countries who will visit Azerbaijan to attend the events marking the 20th anniversary of signing the Contract of the Century.

The Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP) will link Greece to Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field.

The consortium of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field development has chosen the TAP project as a gas transportation route to the European markets.

TAP project is designed to transport gas from the Caspian Sea region via Greece and Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy and then to Western Europe. The total length of the pipeline will be nearly 870 kilometers.

It is planned to start the construction of the pipeline in 2016.
