Issue of increasing pensions and salaries may be reconsidered
First of all, issues pertaining to the social protection of the Azerbaijani people will be in the spotlight in 2016, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Jan.18.

He made the remarks at the meeting dedicated to solving economic and social issues in the country.

The head of state said that the work done over recent years are aimed at improving people’s social welfare and the recent increase in pension and salaries by 10 percent is a crucial step towards this goal.

“We don’t see similar steps being taken in most of the oil-rich countries as well as countries affected by the sharp decline in oil prices. I have no information that any country has increased pensions and salaries while in this ongoing crisis,” he noted.

This is a very big social step and it manifests our strong social policy, President Aliyev said, adding that to make this initiative a reality, hundreds of millions of manats will be expended from the state budget.

“There is no need to explain what it means in the current situation. It’s not ruled out that the issue of increasing pensions and salaries will be reconsidered during this year. This is an issue of our capabilities,” the president said.
