The European Olympic Committees (EOC) on Jan. 21 awarded Azerbaijani first lady, the president of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Mehriban Aliyeva with the Order of Merit, in recognition of her contribution to the development of sports and the Olympic Movement, said the message from EOC.
Mehriban Aliyeva received the award from the EOC president Patrick Hickey.
The first lady of Azerbaijan chaired the Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee, and now is the head of the Organizing Committee for the forthcoming IV Islamic Solidarity Games, which Baku will host in 2017.
