Vienna, Berlin deny plans to seal Greek-Macedonian border to refugees
Both the German and Austrian Interior Ministries have said that their governments have no plans to close the border between Greece and Macedonia to refugees, the ministries
On Tuesday, the German tabloid Bild reported that Germany, Austria, and also the European officials in Brussels work on the plan to seal the Greek-Macedonian border and equip it with a monitoring system.

"As a press spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of the Interior I can tell you that Germany is not involved in such plannings," German Interior Ministry spokeswoman Lisa Hager indicated.

Asked if the two countries were working on measures to stem the flow of migrants, Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said "No."

Europe is struggling to find a solution to a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Germany and Austria are among the refugees’ most popular destinations. Frontex detected over 1.55 million illegal border crossings in 2015.
