Vienna, Berlin deny plans to seal Greek-Macedonian border to refugees
"As a press spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of the Interior I can tell you that Germany is not involved in such plannings," German Interior Ministry spokeswoman Lisa Hager indicated.
Asked if the two countries were working on measures to stem the flow of migrants, Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said "No."
Europe is struggling to find a solution to a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Germany and Austria are among the refugees’ most popular destinations. Frontex detected over 1.55 million illegal border crossings in 2015.
