PM Medvedev to head Russia`s Munich talks delegation - Spokeswoman
The Russian prime minister will take part in the Munich Security Conference in February.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will head the Russian delegation to the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in February, his spokeswoman Natalia Timakova said Thursday.

"The prime minister received an invitation from the organizers of the Munich Security Conference to take part in the conference. The chairman of the government accepted this invitation, and after talks with President [Vladimir Putin] a decision was made that Dmitry Medvedev would head the delegation," Timakova told reporters.

The MSC is an international, nongovernmental, independent conference for discussing major security issues. Founded in 1962 for consultations between NATO member countries, it now involves representatives from Central and Eastern Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East, as well as former Soviet states. This year’s event will take place on February 12-14.

Wolfgang Ischinger, the chairman of the MSC, told Sputnik that the Russian president, in a friendly manner, twice declined the invitation to participate in the 2016 conference.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russia`s top diplomat, Sergei Lavrov, will also attend the conference.
