First cargo on new
Ukraine`s government hopes reviving the ancient route avoiding Russia will benefit national agriculture and energy sectors
The transport link to Asia is an alternative to existing routes though Russia, which were closed after Moscow imposed a ban on any goods from Ukraine, regardless of their final destination.

The test shipment departed the Azerbaijani capital Baku for Kazakhstan on January 23. The freight left Ukraine`s Illichivsk port eight days earlier, before crossing the Black and Caspian Seas via Georgia.

The entire cargo is made up of 20, 40-foot containers. That`s according to China`s Xinhua news agency.

The establishment of some preferential trade tariffs between countries on the route have been agreed.

This route was launched in January after Moscow imposed a ban on goods from Ukraine travelling through Russia. The measures were introduced in reaction to the introduction of Ukraine`s free-trade agreement with the European Union on January 1, 2016
