Iran says ready to mediate in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement
Iran is ready to mediate in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict if Azerbaijan and Armenia want, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari said in response to correspondent’s question at a briefing in Tehran Jan.25.

Iran from the early days of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has always strived to prevent the widening of the crisis and settle the conflict, said Jaberi Ansari.

“If you look into the past, you see that Iran in the most difficult times tried to resolve the crisis between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he added.

Ansari said talks are underway with the Azerbaijani side on the planned visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Iran and upon a final decision, the visit’s date will be publicized.

The deputy FM said Iran and Azerbaijan are regularly holding political discussions, and the recent phone conversation between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Hassan Rouhani was about further development of the historical friendly relations between the two countries. “The development of cooperation is the main objective of both Iran and Azerbaijan.”
