TANAP to connect South Caucasus with Balkan countries
The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), which is one of the most important energy projects in the region, will connect the South Caucasus with the countries of the Balkan Peninsula, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Sept. 30, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

“Azerbaijan and Turkey create an energy corridor, which will connect the South Caucasus with the Balkan countries,” he said.

He also said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline are also one of the important joint projects of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Davutoglu said that Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue to implement joint energy projects.
The TANAP project envisages transporting gas from Azerbaijan`s Shah Deniz field through Turkey up to the country`s border with Europe.

The pipeline`s initial capacity is expected to be 16 billion cubic meters per year. About six billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest to Europe. The pipeline`s capacity can be further expanded to 31 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

It is planned to commission the TANAP pipeline in 2018. The project`s cost is estimated at $10 billion to $11 billion.
