The new case was detected in a 7-month-old infant in western Kampong Speu province in mid-January, the statement said.
"The suspected case was confirmed as measles by the National Institute of Public Health and subsequently it was confirmed by the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory in (China`s) Hong Kong on January 25, 2016," it said.
After receiving the laboratory results, the Health Ministry convened an urgent meeting and dispatched investigation teams to the province for further investigation and for preparing urgent response, it added.
"We are committed to taking all necessary and urgent measures to stop the transmission of the measles virus and working together with the WHO and UNICEF," Health Minister Mam Bunheng said.

Cambodia has confirmed the first case of measles after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared in March last year that the country was measles-free, according to a Health Ministry`s statement on Wednesday.
