The embassy was commenting on the new amendments to the “Law on the legal status of foreigners and persons without citizenship”, which came into force on Sept. 1.
However, the Azerbaijani citizens will now have to obtain long-term study and work visas at the consular department of Georgia’s Embassy in Baku.
From Sept. 1, the foreigners can repeatedly enter and leave Georgia, but the total duration of their stay in the country during a 180-day period shall not exceed 90 days.
A similar practice is used in the Schengen area, the embassy said.
Georgia decided to tighten visa requirements from Sept. 1, introducing five categories of entry visas, for which the other countries’ citizens will have to apply to the Georgian consulate.
The category of migration visas include: student, labor, diplomatic, business, as well as family reunification visas.
It will be possible to obtain a visa at the border only in exceptional cases. At the same time, residence permits will be issued under the new law.
Under the “Law on the legal status of foreigners and persons without citizenship”, Georgia will issue multiple-entry visas with a validity of 180 days for the citizens of countries which are subject to the visa regime.
