Globalization promotes Azerbaijan’s greater integration with Europe, and the selection of Baku as one of the capitals to host the UEFA Euro 2020 testifies to the depth of this integration, Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova said Oct. 3.

He made the remarks at a roundtable meeting titled “Challenges of Globalization: between tradition and transformation”, held as part of the 4th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

The roundtable meeting participants – the prominent science and political figures – submitted their reports on various topics, discussed the problems and the future of globalization, and stressed the importance of the national identity and self-determination issues.

It is expected to adopt a declaration following the roundtable meeting.

The UEFA Euro 2020 will be for the first time ever held in several countries.

Organization of the tournament in such a format is related to the 60th anniversary of Europe’s first football championship – the 1960 UEFA European Nations’ Cup.

Thirteen cities will host the championship - Glasgow (Scotland), London (England), Dublin (Ireland), Brussels (Belgium), Bilbao (Spain), Munich (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), Bucharest (Romania), Baku (Azerbaijan), Copenhagen (Denmark), Rome (Italy), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and St. Petersburg (Russia).
