Azerbaijani MP calls on counterparts, ministers to leave other posts
MPs voiced a number of complaints during the discussion of the plan of legislative activities of the 2016 spring session at today’s parliamentary meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, MP Zahid Oruj accused people`s Writer, secretary of the Azerbaijani Union of Writers Chingiz Abdullayev of holding many positions.

He mentioned that Chingiz Abdullayev is one of those writers who can always live on emoluments from his works.

“Chingiz Abdullayev earlier stated that “if I cannot prevent a father of four children from losing his job, what kind of a man am I?””, said Oruj. “I understand his concern. But his statement also applies to him since he holds many positions.”

The MP also added that it is not true when a minister at the same time is acting as department head at a university and this applies to the MPs as well.

Oruj said according to his calculations, if officials who are holding many positions at the same time leave their positions, at least 1,000 posts will be vacant.

Speaking about the execution of legislative activities in the first meeting of the spring session, MP Fazil Mustafa made complaints on a number of issues. He noted that the country’s president Ilham Aliyev mentions in his speech the necessity of offering support to entrepreneurship and gives serious tasks to ministers.

“While the Ministry of Taxes, prior to the devaluation, used to receive 10,000 manats from entrepreneurs, it has now raised the price up to 20,000 to 30,000 manats. Furthermore, we adopted the law on public involvement so that there would be a working mechanism.

But what we are seeing is that the adoption of these laws is no more than populism. If we adopt the law on science, we should add it to plan. Scientific figures have been anticipating the adoption of this law since long ago. I believe the law must be adopted in this session,” he said.

Mustafa added that there is also a need to redevelop the law on cinematography.

“It feels embarrassing to enter an Azerbaijani film studio. So much money was spent for film making. But there is no quality film or TV serials,” he stressed.
