According to him, Georgian government is currently releasing statements contradicting one another: “Negotiations with Gazprom must be transparent and publicized. We have repeatedly invited Energy minister to the parliament in this regard, but he is still unable to come. The issue of gas is on the focus of both population and country. The main issue for us is strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and to purchase of gas from Azerbaijan”.
Abashidze also commented on change of route for gas transportation from Russia to Armenia through Georgia: “Russia states if a contract is not signed with Georgia, they will transport gas to Armenia through Iran. Construction of the pipeline in the mentioned route is contradicting Georgia’s interests”.
