US congressman made statement on anniversary of 20 January and Khojaly tragedy
US Congressman from New Jersey Donald Payne made a statement in the US Congress in connection with the anniversary of the 20 January and Khojaly tragedy, Azerbaijani Embassy in the US told.

Congressman Payne noted in his statement that Soviet army attacked on January 20, in 1990 civilians who were holding peaceful demonstration civilians; as a result more than 130 people were killed.

On the night of February 26, 1992, more than 600 women and children were killed in Khojaly region of Azerbaijan, he noted.

The statement also voiced an appeal to other members of Congress to honor the tragic date.

Congressman Payne also noted that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the US in the strategically important region.
