The Southern Railway of India also said in a statement that the coaches derailed at 4:15 a.m. local time.
The affected passengers were sent to Bangalore in neighboring by Karnataka state by buses and a special train.
As a result of chaos caused by the accident, 11 trains in the region have been cancelled.
The injured in the accident have been taken to hospitals while medical emergency services were also sent to the location.
TV footages showed that some of the coaches of the train lay turtle or up-side-down off the track. The cause of the incident is not known yet.
