The passengers included students and employees working in private sectors and government offices, who were on their way to Ukai from Navsari State transport depot, said local daily Indian Express online.
The accident happened just before the Gurukul Supa bridge on Purna river.
Authorities were carrying out rescue operations and the injured have been rushed to hospitals for emergency treatment.
Traffic accidents in India are common. Reckless driving, over packing of passengers and bad road conditions are main reasons for deadly accidents which kill at least 110,000 each year.
