Georgia hopes to increase the supply of gas from "Shah Deniz"
Georgian authorities hope to receive additional volumes of natural gas from Azerbaijan through the South Caucasus Pipeline told reporters Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze.
Georgia now receives about 11 million cubic meters of gas per day: 6 million is Azerbaijani gas through the “Gazakh” pipeline, 3.2 million is within "Shah Deniz-1" (South Caucasus Pipeline - SCP), rest 1.5-2 million cubic meters is received as payment for the transit of Russian gas supplied to Armenia. The Government of Georgia in 2011 addressed to the consortium of the South Caucasus Pipeline to provide additional volumes of gas, but the repeated offers of negotiations received a written refusal, noted Kaladze. Currently negotiations are in a very active phase, but the agreement has not been reached.

In case of a positive outcome of the negotiations, Georgia will not need the volume of Russian gas, which is needed today, the minister said, adding that today it is about getting 300-400 million cubic meters from Russia.

"We have our own position, strong views. We will do everything in order to get the maximum result for the development of our country, our industry and our people ... I think we will reach a certain agreement." - Kaladze said.
