Ukrainian parliament okays new defence minister
Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, appointed Stepan Poltorak the country’s defense minister, the Interfax news agency reported Oct. 14.

Poltorak’s candidacy, earlier nominated by the Ukrainian president, was supported by 245 MPs at a parliament meeting.

The parliament also dismissed Valeriy Geletey, who was previously holding the position of the defense minister.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko accepted Geletey’s resignation on Oct. 12.
