The apology says that the article entitled “We benefit from Turkey’s experience in the field of Tourism”, which was published by Sabah newspaper on Feb. 6, has mistakenly listed Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and the surrounding areas within borders of another country.
It is noted that Azerbaijan’s embassy in Ankara has sent a letter of protest to the newspaper’s editorial staff. “We make a correction and apologize,” says the newspaper’s apology.
The apology also presents the text of letter sent by the Azerbaijani embassy in Ankara.
The letter says: “20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, including Nagorno-Karabakh are under occupation of Armenia. Despite the ceasefire agreement signed in 1994, the Armenian troops continue violating the ceasefire on the contact line of troops. The UN, OSCE, European Parliament and other international organizations, many countries, including Turkey confirmed the unacceptability of this occupation due to the infringement of international law.”
Recall that the website of Sabah newspaper posted an article on a panel discussion held in Istanbul as part of the World Tourism Forum with the participation of ministers from several countries. The article included a photo of ministers of Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Ghana and Turkey. Maps describing the flags of the countries were inserted behind the ministers. The Azerbaijani map behind Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev didn’t reflect occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
