`Privatization of assets necessary for Azerbaijan rather than investors`
“I think that when the oil price is high the government will certainly do its utmost to keep the most essential and attractive sectors of economy in its hands. However, when the oil price is 30 dollars, the government is more prepared to begin a large-scale privatization programme,” President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the Energy Security Roundtable as part of the Munich Security Conference.

The head of state said he believes the current oil price is more attractive to foreign investors.

“Because the privatization of our assets is necessary for us rather than investors. Of course, we are meant to find a balance in this area so that the government as well as investors could take their shares. In this case, we are facing the issues of vital economic reforms, improvement of business atmosphere, continuation of privatization, and reduction of dependence on oil,” he stressed.
