This is because the runway is right in the middle of an area that struggles with cross winds .
It has been dubbed `the world`s scariest` and `Europe`s most dangerous airport` thanks to the tricky landing.
And it can be tricky to handle even for the most experienced of pilots, as this video of a commercial plane coming into land proves.
This clip shows a landing plane slowly drifting side to side as it is caught up in the strong winds.
It looks as though it`s on course for a smooth landing but as it comes down towards the tarmac, it turns almost 90 degrees.
The pilot tries to correct it but struggles as they continue to hover the craft in the air until it can land straight.
After a toe-curling few seconds, the pilot successfully lands the plane with its nose in the right direction.
Other clips show planes struggling to land and take off, though luckily each one manages to get it right.
There hasn`t been an accident at the airport since 1977, when a plane from Swiss airline SA de Transport Aérien (SATA) crashed into the sea killing 36 people.
