The statement was the first confirmation by Egyptian authorities, confirming that the Russian-operated A321 had been brought down by terrorists.
On October 31, a Russian-operated airliner carrying 224 people crashed in the Sinai Peninsula en route from the seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. The crash has become the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian history.
Egypt`s branch of Daesh claimed responsibility for the crash, while the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said the cause of the crash was a terrorist attack and that an improvised explosive device had been placed on board the aircraft.
Since then, Russian flights to Egypt were suspended on November 6 and then on November 14 flights of Egypt Air to Russia were also suspended.
