Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is expected to attend but Ankara has not yet confirmed his presence at the Brussels meeting, the official said on customary condition of anonymity.
Earlier, European Council President Donald Tusk announced the meeting on Twitter. “On migration, our joint #EUTurkey action plan remains a priority, which is why we will organise a special meeting with Turkey on 7 March”.
The meeting follows on from a meeting in November when EU leaders agreed an action plan with Turkey to stem the flow of refugees to Europe.
Davutoglu had been scheduled to meet senior EU officials including Tusk, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Parliament President Martin Schulz last week but cancelled following a terrorist attack in Ankara.
